When you squeeze an orange in this thing , it produces some juice but most of the juice in the orange remains in the orange . Also ,and here is the gross part , the juice itself runs all up and around the outside of the peel before slowly draining out of the juicer . Thus , the juice you get has first "washed " the outside of your orange and included any contaminants , insecticide , etc., into the juice that you will drink . Unless you first want to disinfect the orange peel before cutting and squeezing and who wants to add that effort ? The electic one that cost around $20 , i.e., Black and Decker ,etc., work better and more easily and don't force you to scrub the orange before juicing .
