I am so glad I bought this butter bell! It is wonderful to have soft, spreadable butter anytime I need it without having to remember to take it out of the refrigerator to soften. And it is so pretty that I am proud to have it on my counter or dinner table.
We had decided to start eating less margarine and replace it with real butter whenever possible. As much as people bash butter, it really is healthier than margarine. Of course, the flavor can't be beat!
The Norpro Butter Keeper is so easy to use too. I just soften a stick of butter and then scoop it into the bell on the underside of the lid. Next I add a small amount of water to the base and then put the lid back on top with the bell in the water.
The water forms a seal that keeps the butter fresh without it getting hard and difficult to spread. Water should be changed every couple of days. Nothing could be easier and it is well worth it to have butter whenever I want it.
This is one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. Highly recommended!

We're enchanted with our Stoneware Butter Keeper! In a butter keeper, your butter stays fresh, soft, and sweet for up to 30 days without refrigeration. By insulating, protecting, and cooling the butter, you can maintain it at perfect spreading consistency. Water is used to provide an airtight seal to protect the sweet taste of the butter. Simply place butter in the holder, pour cold water in the crock, and insert the butter holder into the crock.Butter stored in the fridge tastes like leftovers and tears up your toast, while butter stored on the counter spreads easily but goes rancid in days. What to do? Norpro has the answer. Simply pack the Norpro Butter Keeper's inverted lid with softened butter, put an inch or so of cool water in the base, and invert the lid on top. Water makes an airtight seal between lid and base, keeping butter soft, sweet, and spreadable for up to 30 days without refrigeration. (You'll need to replace the water every few days.) Looking equally at home on the counter or at the table, this ceramic crock features delicate blue bands and a handle on top.
